…to Letchworth State Park

jenny

Our road trip began as all Ross-Cole trips begin – in a storm.    We set off in the rain hoping, as the satellite weather predicted, to drive out of the rain into sunshine.   It rained for most of the first leg of our journey (but now we know our rainsuits work).  And no wet boots for Jenny too!

We crossed into the United States at Gananoque without any problems and got a bird’s eye view of the Thousands Islands from the bridge.  Too bad we could not stop to take a picture.

We drove through a nice stretch of New York.  Jenny was entertained watching all the cars speed up to pass and then slam on the breaks, thinking Jeremy was a cop.  The white motorcycle and helmet were a good idea.

Our first stop was at a McDonald’s in Paluski, New York.  Definitely, a difference already, even this close to Canada.  There were two hitching posts for horses in the parking lot that showed evidence of recent use.  I guess horses use McDonald’s as a bathroom break too.

After Paluski, we had a bit more rain and then the clouds began to part and we started dry out.  The roads leading to Letchworth State Park were beautiful with glimpses of valleys and mountains all the way.

We arrived at Letchworth State Park a little late due to our delayed departure but managed to get some pictures of the gorge before sunset.  It was pretty awespiring to be looking down on hawks flying below us over the gorge.

We even got a decent campsite without reservations – one of the advantages of travelling non-peak season.

We set up our campsite before it got too dark, but had to cook our supper via flashlight.  Our new mini-camping stove cooked up our chili faster than our stove at home.  Not bad at all!

After our first day of riding, we already know we made the right decision for our vacation this year.  We can’t wait until tomorrow to see what else the road before us holds!
