…to Nashville, Tennessee

jenny

We had a nice surprise this morning at our Holiday Inn in Lexington’s complimentary “continental” breakfast.  We were expecting muffins and bagels and some juice and coffee.  In Kentucky, a “continental” breakfast is a full breakfast buffet including eggs, sausage and grits.  I decided that I liked grits, but only in small quantities.

After we loaded up our motorcycles again, we were off to check out the Shaker village of Harrodsburg.  Once again, the roads were amazing through horse country.  We “stole the soul” of a Shaker actress by snapping her picture and fled.

Next checkpoint for us was Lebanon, Kentucky.  There is a photo of main street from today.  It really is very typical of what we have been seeing on our trip.

We decided that we should go to at least one bourbon distillery while we were in Kentucky, since that is the booze for which it is famous (Wild Turkey is its best known bourbon).  We found a little distillery called Maker’s Mark in Loretto, Kentucky and had the best pulled pork sandwich ever!  Maybe it was the bourbon in the sauce . . . we could not drink any bourbon, though, since we had to drive our motorcycles out of there.

Our next two checkpoints were Edmonton, Kentucky (we had to go because of the Canadian name) and Scottsville, Kentucky.  Both very typical small town America.  We made a local’s day in Scottsville (a motorcycle enthusiast/racer/dirt biker), as he was amazed and awed by Jeremy’s Honda.  He had never seen such a new ST 1300 come through his town before.  Jeremy and him talked Hondas for awhile and I nodded and smiled.

After Scottsdale, it was time for the home stretch to our next campsite in Nashville, Tennessee.  It was a little hairy trying to navigate the highways around Nashville.  At one point, there where five lanes of highway and on and off ramps everywhere for various other highways, streets, and interstates.  We finally got going in the right direction for Music Valley Drive and made it safe and sound to Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Campground.  It is so cute.  It is all Yogi Bear themed and, as an added bonus, as meticulous as an American amusement park.  I will make sure to get some good photos tomorrow.

Love looking at your travels Jenny. Told myself to wait until Friday and then take some time to read and look at a week’s worth. Couldn’t wait…and yes I agree, “Computers and Guns” would be a great venture for you two. :-) . Take care; Sue.
