We actually did it! We got out of our hotel and on the road by 7:00 AM this morning . . . in 5 degrees Celsius weather. Oh, yeah. That’s why we do not leave so early in the Northern States and Canada. Petunia had scared us with her route of 800 KM to Ottawa, so we decided to aim for 12 hours of daylight just in case we needed it all. We had not come close to an 800 KM day this trip, but we had one day last year that ended up being that long, so we knew it was in us to do it. We were not looking forward to it, though. Well, we intended to get out early this morning, but we dawdled yet again. We had a leisurely breakfast in the cozy dining room at the Summit Inn. We really did not want to leave this hotel. We will definitely have to come back for a visit again some time soon. Continue reading

Today we let Petunia be our guide to get us near Falling Water. We pretty much expected a day of interstates so we spent a couple of hours at the Natural Bridge Tourist Trap after packing up camp this morning. Continue reading

Well, we made some good time today on the Blue Ridge. Maybe the space-time continuum sleeps in on Monday mornings. The lack of weekend-trippers on the parkway probably helped too. Before we knew it we had done 200 KM. The cooler weather was turning us into quite the road warriors. Continue reading

What the heck? Why are we still in North Carolina? This state must be huge! Oh, I see, we’ve been on the Blue Ridge Parkway. In fact, I think we found some kind of rift in the space-time continuum near Asheville this morning. We took Interstate 40 about 53 miles west to the town of Cherokee, and as soon as we got on the BRP and started heading back towards Asheville, we were 90 miles away. We need to figure out how to harness that negative travel through space and turn it into a new energy source! Continue reading

Well, the Holiday Inn Express in Washington, North Carolina may not be the prettiest or the cleanest hotel we have been in, but it had the fastest internet connection so far on our trip. We spent some time in the guest breakfast lounge getting caught up on our blog and photo posting before setting off for the day. Continue reading

Today we pretended we were tourists and spent the day cruising the seashore and seeing the sights. It took me longer than usual to load up the bikes today because there was a parade of antique motorcycles going past and I kept forgetting what I was supposed to be doing. There must have been a show or beach race somewhere today, but unfortunately we didn’t find it. Continue reading

Jenny was pretty excited to see the sunrise over the Atlantic this morning and had trouble sleeping despite having the certified comfiest bed in Ocean City, Maryland (according to the lighted billboard, anyways). She was up way before daybreak and sat on our balcony waiting for the big event. I waited until it was closer and lighter and rolled out there to watch. It was nice of them to put lounge chairs on the balcony for us so I could nap between photos. Continue reading

What can I say about today. Hot, hot, and more hot. Apparently, it was suppose to only get to 78 degrees Farenheit today. Hmmm . . . 34 degrees Celsius does not equal 78 degrees Farenheit. Continue reading

Well, the internet just did not work at the Holiday Inn last night, so we thought we would go to the McDonald’s in North Adams as all the McDonald’s in the United States have WiFi apparently. No luck with the WiFi. Jeremy finally got his McDonald’s breakfast this trip, so it was still worth the stop. Continue reading

Another good start this morning. We were hitting the pavement outside of Sebago Lake State Park by 8:30 AM today even though we had to pack up camp. I think we are still on Atlantic time. Eastern Standard Time will catch up to us eventually. Continue reading

Today was a heck of a day. Somehow we got up and out of the hotel by 8:30 this morning, and when we got to the US border shortly thereafter, we gained an hour back when we re-entered the Eastern Time Zone. Traffic was definitely on the light side as we cruised down the I-95 towards Bangor. Continue reading

Today was all about waiting for Earl. He finally showed up sometime this morning, and by 5:30pm or so was passed well overhead. It is starting to dry out now and we have planned our targets for tomorrow. Continue reading

Today was all about fleeing Earl’s wrath. We wanted to put as much distance between ourselves and the projected path of Hurricane Earl. We had lined ourselves up last night in Shediac to make a short 200 KM run for Fredericton along Highway 2. Continue reading

Jeremy had a birthday sleep in today (8:00am – woohoo!). Happy Birthday, Jeremy! All he asked for was to not tip over today. The sleep-in is just an added bonus. Continue reading

The Hideaway Campground retains its high rating, as the showers did indeed have both hot and cold water available – at the same time and everything. What a great night – the temperature was perfect, and there was complete silence. So peaceful. The morning had Jenny hustling to get coffee made and camp packed up, since she read her watch wrong and thought we were already an hour behind. We managed to get out of there before 9:00 even! After a deformed, melted and re-solidified snickers bar for breakfast with the coffee, we hit the road ready to take in the rest of the Cabot Trail. Continue reading
